How effective is Ayurvedic Medicine?
Ayurveda is a very effective system of complementary and alternative medicine that is rapidly gaining recognition in the West. It is one if the primary systems of health care in India and has been used for thousands of years for the treatment and management of a wide range of ailments and diseases. Its full effectiveness will depend on various considerations, including your current state of health, health history, quality of daily nutrition, and compliance with dietary and lifestyle recommendations and treatment with traditional herbal medicine. In the two decades of offering Ayurvedic health care, we have full faith in the power of this profound, yet practical system of healing. What is the difference between an Ayurvedic massage and a regular massage?
Another popular form of Ayurvedic massage is Shila Abhyanga, or Ayurvedic Hot Stone massage. In this case, the use of heated basalt stones help the herbal oils further penetrate into the tissues and allowing the therapist to go deeper into the muscles to release tension.
Another form of Ayurvedic massage is Marma Massage, which consists of utilizing vigorous strokes while focusing on specific vital energy points (marmas) to release tension, stimulate your blood circulation and energize your whole body.
What is unique about Ayurvedic Massage?
Ayurvedic massage is traditionally known as Abhyanga. It consists of one or two therapists massaging warm herbal oil onto your body from head to foot, using specialized and synchronized strokes. This kind of massage takes you into a state of deep and profound relaxation, while nourishing all your tissues and promoting cleansing and healing. Another aspect of Ayurvedic Massage is the focus on specific vital energy points (marmas) to release tension, stimulate circulation, remove energetic blockages, and restore balance to your whole self.
What are medicated oils and why are they used in Ayurveda?
What is Ayurveda’s approach to diet?
Ayurvedic diet is not a specific ethnic cuisine, rather it is based on each individual’s needs. It emphasizes wholesome, nourishing food and the avoidance of highly processed foods and artificial ingredients. Ayurveda is not a strict vegetarian diet but does encourage eating a balanced diet including a wide variety fresh plant-based food. Sustainable agriculture is essential for the health of our environment, so we strongly encourage that food be as well sourced as possible including local, organic produce and ethically raised animal-based foods including eggs, meats, fish, and dairy products. If you have any food sensitivities or follow a particular type of diet that works for you, Ayurveda can help to fine tune it, to assist in you in your healing process.
How does Shirodhara promote mental rejuvenation?
Pouring warm oil on the forehead has an extremely soothing and relaxing effect. This therapy quiets both the mind and the senses, allowing your body’s natural healing mechanisms to release stress and impurities. When deep relaxation is achieved, the subtle “imprints” of imbalance or disease are also released. This therapy calms the subtle aspects of the doshas in the region of the head, thus promoting mental rejuvenation. It is performed with herbal oils that nourish the nervous system and the subtle channels in the head. Because of the profound effects it has upon the consciousness, it has often been called “Bliss Therapy.” Most people drop into a deep state of relaxation during this therapy, especially when it is performed after an Ayurvedic massage.
Is Marma Therapy similar to acupuncture or acupressure?
